Tommy Robredo battles past Richard Gasquet in four at Australian Open

Tommy Robredo edges out Richard Gasquet in four sets to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open.

Tommy Robredo has seen off ninth seed Richard Gasquet by securing a 2-6 7-5 6-4 7-6[6] victory to book a place in the fourth round of the Australian Open.

Gasquet was on form in the first set by swiftly moving into the lead with 12 winners and two break points, while his Spanish opponent could only get two games on the board in the opening set.

Despite succumbing to a one-set deficit, Robredo fought back in the second set by nabbing a vital break of serve and maintaining his service games throughout.

While Gasquet scored two aces in the second set, he failed to match Robredo's 14 winners as he went on to draw level on sets in the Hisense Arena.

From then on, Robredo managed to keep up his dominance on the court and frustrated Gasquet, who squandered two break points to relinquish the third set.

The fourth set was a tight affair between the competitors, who both held on to their service games strongly, which resulted in a tie-break.

Gasquet took a 3-1 lead, but Robredo fought back to claim the tie-break 8-6 and reach the next phase of the tournament.
