Victoria Azarenka beats Maria Kirilenko to bronze

Victoria Azarenka claims the bronze medal in the women's Olympic singles thanks to a straight-sets victory over Maria Kirilenko at Wimbledon.

Victoria Azarenka has claimed the bronze medal in the women's Olympic singles thanks to a straight-sets victory over Maria Kirilenko on Wimbledon's Court Number One.

The win has given Belarus their fourth medal of the Games following triumphs in shooting, swimming and weightlifting.

The world number one dominated early in the first set and secured herself an early break. It was soon cancelled out by Kirilenko before Azarenka got herself back in front thanks to a second break.

The Russian had the chance to draw herself level again, but couldn't take the break point. Instead, Azarenka hit three winners to fight back to hold and take the opening set 6-3.

The second looked to be a far simpler affair for Azarenka as two quick breaks saw her race into a 3-0 lead.

A frustrated Kirilenko then won her first game in six to break back before she broke again to make it 3-3.

However, the Belarusian powered through to break for a third time in the set and went on to serve out the match 6-4.
