Serena Williams and Maria Sharpova will make history in their Olympic singles final on Saturday as one of them will become only the second woman to win a career Golden Slam.

Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova will go head to head in a historic match in the women's singles final at the Olympics tomorrow.

Williams booked her spot in the final by comprehensively beating world number one Victoria Azarenka 6-1 6-2, while Sharapova beat fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko 6-2 6-3.

However, there will be more than just a gold medal up for grabs in their final, as the winner will become only the second woman in tennis history, after Steffi Graf, to complete a 'Golden Slam' - all four Grand Slams and an Olympic gold.

Roger Federer also has the chance to complete the rarest of tennis feats when he faces Andy Murray in the men's final on Sunday.

"One of us is definitely going to get it. That will be great. I'm excited to have that opportunity. Roger [Federer] is in the men's final, too. That makes three. Roger, me and Maria," said Williams.

Only Andre Agassi and Rafael Nadal have recorded a Golden Slam in the men's game, while Williams will be aiming to become the first player to ever win a Golden Slam in both doubles and singles.
