Andy Murray slams "disrespectful" ITF over Aljaz Bedene treatment

British number one Andy Murray labels the International Tennis Federation "disrespectful" for its treatment of Aljaz Bedene.

World number two Andy Murray has said that the International Tennis Federation has been "disrespectful" to fellow Brit Aljaz Bedene.

Bedene was hopeful of playing in Great Britain's Davis Cup team in their final against Belgium, but he is currently ineligible after his switch of nationalities from Slovenian to British coincided with changes in the rules barring players for representing two different countries.

The 26-year-old was due to present his case to the ITF in Prague on Tuesday, only to be told that a decision would not be made until March.

"The fact that he had to go all the way over to Prague just to be told that they hadn't made a decision, I think, is a bit disrespectful towards him," Murray told BBC Sport.

"If they hadn't made a decision, they could have just said, 'We haven't made a decision yet - we're going to decide in March,' and he could have stayed at home.

"I think they have done everything correctly and in the right amount of time and I can understand from his side why you would be very frustrated with that."

Britain will be looking to win the Davis Cup for the first time since 1936 when they take on Belgium next weekend.
