Number three seed Victoria Azarenka has begun her French Open campaign with a comfortable 6-1 6-4 victory over Elena Vesnina.
Azarenka started off strongly on the clay court by snatching an early break of serve, which pushed Vesnina on the back foot as she struggled to handle the 23-year-old's powerful forehands.
After wrapping up the first set, Azarenka continued her dominance by breaking her opponent in the early stages of the second set, leaving Vesnina with plenty to do.
While Azarenka's swift feet and well-executed shots across the court gave her an advantage, she was dealt a blow when Vesnina fought back to take the set to 3-3.
Despite Vesnina's comeback, Azarenka drew on her experience to edge out her competitor and grab a place in the second round of the tournament.
