Great Britain's Katie Swan progresses to the first round of the Indian Wells Masters, but Katie Boulter bows out.

Great Britain's Katie Swan progressed to the first round of the Indian Wells Masters on Tuesday, but Katie Boulter bowed out.

Swan got the job done 6-4 7-6 against Hungary's Dalma Galfi, before her compatriot suffered a 3-6 7-6 4-6 defeat to Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko in the final qualifying stage.

World number 156 Swan had prevailed against France's Leolia Jeanjean in her opening battle to set up a tie with Galfi, who was the top seed coming into qualification.

Despite the 76-place chasm between the two players in the WTA rankings, Swan came through a nervy final set tie-breaker to prevail in one hour and 51 minutes, having saved six of the eight break points she faced on the day.

However, a second-set fightback from Boulter was in vain as she lost in two hours and 31 minutes to Tsurenko, who was broken five times throughout the contest but saved a further 10 break points.

Seven double faults also bedevilled Boulter, who missed the chance to join Swan and Emma Raducanu in the first round, but the latter has since suffered a late scare ahead of the first round.

Raducanu has not played since the Australian Open and was due to compete with Cameron Norrie at the charity Eisenhower Cup event, but the former US Open champion has since withdrawn.

The 20-year-old missed last week's ATX Open in Texas with tonsillitis, and it remains to be seen if she will be cleared to face Danka Kovinic in the first round at Indian Wells.
