Maria Sharapova claims that her hard work paid off following Sunday's straight-sets victory over Caroline Wozniacki in the final of Indian Wells.

Maria Sharapova has claimed that her hard work paid off following her victory over Caroline Wozniacki in the final of Indian Wells.

The Russian cruised past the Danish world number 10 6-2 6-2 on Sunday to clinch her second title at the tournament.

"This is what I do all the work for is these moments," said Sharapova. "What makes it so special is when you end up as the champion, that's why I am smiling.

"When you have days like this it's a really nice feeling because everything has paid off."

The win will see Sharapova move up to second place when the new WTA rankings are published on Monday.
