David Ferrer eases through to round three of Paris Masters

David Ferrer reaches the third round of the Paris Masters with a straight-sets win over Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov.

David Ferrer is into the third round of the Paris Masters after a straight-sets win over Alexandr Dolgopolov.

The world number eight needed just an hour to see off his Ukranian opponent in the French capital.

The early games of the first set went with the serve, but it was Ferrer who gained an advantage in the fifth as he broke the Dolgopolov serve. He spurned two break points in the game but finally took it with his third, then broke again to move 5-2 up.

The Spaniard made no mistake in wrapping up the set, serving it out at the first opportunity to take it 6-2.

The second set followed a similar pattern to the first, with the opening four games seeing both players hold before Ferrer broke in the fifth.

From there, Dolgopolov struggled to recover, and a number of errors allowed his opponent to break again and move three games up in the process.

Ferrer, like in the first set, needed just one chance to serve out the set and the match, as he took the second set 6-2 to move into the next round.
