Andy Murray overcomes Fernando Verdasco at Queen's

Andy Murray records a 7-5 6-4 win over Fernando Verdasco to seal his place in the quarter-finals at Queen's Club.

Andy Murray booked his place in the quarter-finals of the Aegon Championships at the Queen's Club this afternoon thanks to a 7-5 6-4 victory over Fernando Verdasco.

The two players last met on grass at Wimbledon two years ago, when Murray, who would eventually go on to be crowned champion at SW19, came through in five sets.

However, on this occasion, it was not such a close contest as the Scot won through in straight sets in one hour and 33 minutes.

World number three Murray raced into a 4-1 lead in the opening set, only to then lose the next three games to his Spanish opponent. Yet, another Murray break of the Verdasco serve while leading 6-5 wrapped up the set.

The second set went with serve right up until the 10th game, when Murray crucially broke for the third time in the match to seal his win.

The 28-year-old, who has previously won the title at Queen's three times, will now take on Gilles Muller for a place in the semi-finals.
