Roger Federer through to Dubai semi-finals as Richard Gasquet retires

Roger Federer seals a place in the semi-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships after his opponent Richard Gasquet retired after one set.

Former world number one Roger Federer has secured a place in the semi-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships by playing just one set as his opponent Richard Gasquet was forced to retire with injury.

Federer was already making light work of the quarter-final clash as he broke Gasquet's serve at the first time of asking in the United Arab Emirates.

Gasquet managed to hold his next game, but that was the only one that he would put on the board as Federer eased to a double break to seal the set 6-1.

Shortly afterwards, Gasquet decided that he could not continue, but it is unclear why the Frenchman opted to retire from the match.

In the semi-finals, Federer will play 18-year-old Croatian Borna Coric, who secured a surprise straight-sets victory over Andy Murray earlier today.
