Heather Watson has booked her place in the second round of the Rogers Cup by beating Irina Falconi 6-1 6-2 in Toronto.
After booking her place in the main draw at the weekend, Watson looked in good touch from the opening point as she dictated the tempo of longer rallies to work her American opponent hard early in the match.
In an impressive start, Watson took a break point at the second attempt in each of Falconi's first two service games to claim the control and she never looked back on the way to winning the first set inside 24 minutes.
The same problems hampered the American in the second set as the British number one capitalised on Falconi's vulnerable serve to break twice in the opening three games, before handing a break back with a sloppy service game of her own.
Watson continued to attack her rival at every opportunity, and her approach paid off as she wrapped up the match in emphatic style to secure her progress in the tournament.
