Roberta Vinci maintains impressive US Open form by reaching quarter-finals

2015 finalist Roberto Vinci continues her march at the US Open by beating Lesia Tsurenko 7-6(5) 6-2 at Flushing Meadows.

Roberta Vinci has become the first player to book her place in the quarter-finals of the US Open after beating Lesia Tsurenko in straight sets.

Last year's finalist progressed through with a 7-6(5) 6-2 victory, meaning a place in the last eight for the fourth time in her last five appearances at Flushing Meadows.

Vinci did not have things her own way early on, however, as a tight opening set - in which both players lost serve on one occasion - ended with a tie-break being required to separate them.

Tsurenko lost momentum and saw the final three points go her opponent's way, and the Ukrainian then struggled in the second set as two losses of serve allowed Vinci to pounce and take the match.
