Liam Broady: 'Five-set matches physically, emotionally demanding'

Britain's Liam Broady admits that five-set matches are physically and emotionally demanding following his exit at the hands of Belgium's David Goffin.

Liam Broady has described playing in five-set matches as "demanding" both physically and emotionally following his exit from Wimbledon.

The 21-year-old made his singles debut at Wimbledon earlier this week, beating Marinko Matosevic in five sets before being knocked out by Belgium's David Goffin earlier today.

The wildcard told BBC Radio 5 live: "It was tough match. I think my first match against Matosevic did take it out of me partially. David had played a three-set match in the first round.

"Five-set matches are not only physically demanding but emotionally too. The opponent can find form over the course of five sets, while in a three-match there is not time for it. I got emotional after my first-round win and it did take it out of me."

Broady is a former junior singles finalist at Wimbledon, and won the boys' doubles title in 2010 alongside Tom Farquharson.
