Great Britain's Heather Watson advanced through to round three of Wimbledon this afternoon courtesy of a 6-1 6-4 victory over Jamie Lee Hampton.
Watson, currently ranked 103rd in the world, began the encounter the brighter of the two players on Court Two.
She made the most of that domination by claiming two breaks of Hampton's serve on her way to wrapping up the opening set in just under 30 minutes 6-1.
The Brit began the second set in similar fashion when she broke Hampton at the first opportunity. However, her American opponent responded with a break of her own as both players found holding their service games a challenge during the opening exchanges.
Watson eventually managed to hold to open up a 5-3 lead and while Hampton also held at the next time of asking, she was unable to prevent Watson from serving out to seal her route into the next round.
Hampton is currently ranked 14 places above Watson in the standings.
