Anna Sloan: "We stayed relaxed and in control"

Anna Sloan says that she remained "relaxed" throughout Great Britain's tense 9-6 victory over the Russian Federation in the women's curling round robin match today.

Great Britain women's curling third Anna Sloan has said that she felt her team were "in control" during their 9-6 victory over the Russian Federation this morning.

Despite Russia winning an impressive three in the penultimate end to set up a tense finale, Sloan said that she was "relaxed" about getting a positive result.

"We knew that was going to be a tough game but we stayed relaxed and in control," Sloan told reporters after the match.

"While we lost a silly three in the ninth end, we'd have definitely taken being one up with one end to play.

"They're a good team and very experienced."

The turning point in the game was in the eighth end, when Sloan ensured that a double takeout gave Team GB four points.

"I'd make that shot nine out of 10 times in practice, but under the pressure you never know," said Sloan.

"It was a great team effort. I made the shot, but the sweepers had to be alert and the skip has the responsibility of giving the right ice."

The win ensures that Eve Muirhead's team have their fate in their own hands ahead of the final round robin match against Denmark this afternoon, which is due to begin at 3pm GMT.
