Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator John DeFilippo has urged Johnny Manziel to embrace the lifestyle of an NFL quarterback.
The 22-year-old had difficulty adjusting to the league in his rookie season as he backed up Brian Hoyer for the majority of the campaign before becoming the starter late in the year in two matches in which he struggled immensely.
Manziel was also criticised for his partying antics and entered rehab in February for personal problems, and DeFilippo has insisted that if he wants to succeed in the league, the quarterback has to become obsessed with the game.
"It's truly a lifestyle to be an NFL quarterback," he told WKNR-AM. "It's not just a job. It's all-consuming. You need to sleep, eat, do everything fast and just think about football all the time.
"The great ones have an obsession with it. You watch the Peyton Manning's, those guys are obsessed with football. And you talk about quarterback lifestyle, in our first meeting, that's what we're going to talk about with those guys."
The Browns signed veteran quarterback Josh McCown to a lucrative three-year deal on Sunday.
