San Diego Chargers general manager Tom Telesco has hailed Frank Reich as an "outstanding coach" following his promotion to offensive coordinator.
Reich moved into the role following the departure of previous offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, who was named head coach of the Tennessee Titans earlier this week.
The 52-year-old was rumoured to be thinking of joining Whisenhunt at the Titans, but he instead chose to stay with the Chargers, a decision Telesco was delighted with.
"Frank is an outstanding football coach with tremendous experience in the league as both a player and coach, including 10 years as a quarterback with the Buffalo Bills in one of the most productive offenses in NFL history," Telesco said in a statement.
"He also has worked with some outstanding coaches and quarterbacks. We're fortunate to have Frank on our staff."
The Chargers reached the playoffs this season but were eliminated in the divisional round by the Denver Broncos.
