England captain Alastair Cook has claimed that it is "nice to bounce back" after his team levelled up the series 1-1 against Pakistan by winning the second Test at Old Trafford.

The hosts defeated Pakistan by 330 runs on day four of the clash.

Cook scored 105 runs in the first innings and ended unbeaten on 76 in the second, but was criticised for not enforcing the follow-on yesterday.

Nevertheless, England ran out dominant winners and will head to Edgbaston with the series evenly poised.

"It's quite nice to bounce back and play like that over four days," Cook told the BBC's Test Match Special. "You have to consign the last Test to the bin. We spoke about it before the game, clearly it was a good toss to win. We got ahead, and stayed ahead.

"I said at the end of the day, the tempo of our batting was more like a Test match - we were playing high-risk shots for little reward at Lord's. Joe Root's performance, stepping up to number three, was so controlled. We all know what a world-class player he is. He didn't put a foot wrong.

"I was surprised that the decision not to follow-on caused such a stir. To me it was a bit of a no-brainer. I think everyone else wanted a day off."

Meanwhile, Ben Stokes is a doubt for the third Test after he withdrew during the afternoon session with a calf injury.
