Olympic champion cyclist Dani King suffers five broken ribs and a collapsed lung after crashing during a training session.

Olympic gold medallist Dani King has suffered five broken ribs following a crash in training yesterday.

King also suffered a collapsed lung in an incident that occurred after a member of her group hit a pothole during a regular training route in South Wales.

The 23-year-old, who has been having treatment in hospital, wrote on Twitter: "Crashed whilst out training yesterday resulting in 5 broken ribs and a collapsed lung. Being looked after by the amazing NHS ICU in Wales.

"Thank you all so much for the kind messages. They're really helping. Im sending massive Good Luck from my bed to the GB team tonight."

King, who is a full-time rider for team Wiggle Honda after switching to road cycling last month, won gold in the team pursuit at London 2012.
