Africa Cup of Nations preview: Algeria

Sports Mole looks ahead to Algeria's chances of making an impact at the Africa Cup of Nations.

It would be fair to say that Algeria have experienced mixed fortunes at the Africa Cup of Nations since they lifted the trophy for the one and only time back in 1990.

More recently they have failed to qualify for three of the last four tournaments - although the one time that they did feature they managed to finish fourth.

This time around they have coach who has a host of experience. Vahid Halilhodzic has managed the likes of Paris-Saint Germain and Lille, as well as the Ivory Coast at the 2008 instalment of this competition.

They reached this stage courtesy of a 3-0 aggregate win over Libya.

Group: D

Players to watch out for:

Sofiane Feghouli

He may have only earned nine full caps, but Feghouli is regarded as one his country's most valuable players at this tournament. He has shown for Valencia over the last few months that he is a midfielder capable of both defending and attacking to a high standard. His experience of playing in a competitive league like La Liga could prove vital if his nation progresses beyond the group stages.

El Arbi Hillel Soudani

Since 25-year-old Soudani was called up the national squad in 2011, he has gone on to score six goals from just nine appearances. They have been important goals as well, with three coming during the qualification process - including two against Libya. He currently plays his club football for Portuguese Primeira Liga side Vitoria Sport Clube.

Previous best: Winners 1990

Odds outright to win: 14/1
