Half-Time Report: Argentina force early lead against Bosnia-Herzegovina

Argentina lead 1-0 at half-time in the Maracana, but they are being made to work for their lead by World Cup newcomers Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Sead Kolasinac's early own goal has gifted Argentina the perfect start to their 2014 World Cup campaign against tournament debutants Bosnia-Herzegovina in the Maracana.

The breakthrough for the South Americans came after a Lionel Messi free kick wasn't cleared by the Golden Lilies and the defender inadvertently turned the ball beyond keeper Asmir Begovic.

Bosnia may have been forgiven for thinking that they were in for a long night, but instead the newcomers looked to fight back and started to pose problems for the two-time former world champions.

Indeed, they were almost level when Izet Hajrovic brought down a floated pass that evaded the Argentine defence, but he was thwarted by Sergio Romero.

Argentina tried to increase the tempo just after the half-hour mark and Javier Mascherano's effort from distance needed to be punched clear by Begovic.

However, the Bosnians continued to push for an equaliser and Manchester City forward Edin Dzeko came close to scoring after working himself into space, but he couldn't keep his effort down.

Four minutes before the interval, the best chance for the World Cup debutants came when Senad Lulic headed a corner goalwards, but Romero was on hand to keep out the Lazio midfielder.
