Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm suffers broken ankle

Bayern Munich say that Philipp Lahm has broken his ankle and will be out for three months.

Bayern Munich have announced that Philipp Lahm will be out of action for around three months with a broken ankle.

The 31-year-old skipper suffered the injury in training and now Bayern have learnt the extent of the damage after revealing earlier today that he had suffered a "serious injury".

The former Germany captain, who announced his international retirement after winning the World Cup in Brazil, had started every Bundesliga game for Bayern this season, scoring twice.

He will be out of action until February, which means that he should be fit in time for the first knockout round of the Champions League.

Bayern have already secured top spot in Group E and will find out their last-16 opponents in next month's draw on December 15.
