Vincent Kompany taking positives from Belgium exit

Vincent Kompany says that Belgium's future at international level remains promising despite their World Cup exit.

Vincent Kompany has insisted that the future is still bright for Belgium following Saturday's World Cup exit.

An unbeaten qualifying campaign, coupled with a host of star names in their ranks, saw a youthful Red Devils side head to Brazil as one of the dark horses to go all the way in the tournament.

Marc Wilmots's side bowed out at the quarter-final stage following a 1-0 defeat to Argentina, but Kompany is convinced that future campaigns will prove more fruitful as a result of the experience.

"We're a young team, we had a 19-year old striker [Divock Origi]. Our oldest striker was 21 [Romelu Lukaku]," he told reporters.

"It was such a good learning curve for those young players, and I believe that when we come to the next World Cup, they will feel very calm and will feel in their element as if they belong here.

"I can guarantee you that in three or four years' time we'll go and take this game as if it were ours to win. And that's the experience you get from this competition and it's good."

Belgium sit 11th in the FIFA World Rankings.
