Lloyd Dyer strike seals Championship title for Leicester City

Leicester City beat Bolton Wanderers to ensure that they will finish top in the Championship this season.

Leicester City have secured the Championship title with two games to spare following their 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium this evening.

Andy King came close to opening the scoring after just five minutes for the visitors, but his attempt at turning the ball in from a David Nugent cross went wide.

Bolton began to see more of the ball as the opening spell progressed, allowing Lukas Jutkiewicz to unleash a powerful strike, but Kasper Schmeichel was able to keep hold of it in the Leicester goal.

Alex Bogdan was kept busy after the 20-minute mark as the Championship leaders tried to break the deadlock, but the home keeper was able to deny Riyad Mahrez, Danny Drinkwater and Ritchie de Laet.

The Trotters nearly gifted Leicester the lead just before the break when Zat Knight headed the ball onto his own crossbar while defending a corner, but his teammates eventually managed to clear.

Leicester continued to look the more likely to find the back of the net at the start of the second half as Anthony Knockaert smashed the ball towards the target less than five minutes after the restart, but Bogdan was on hand once again to punch it away.

After surviving a fierce start to the second period from the visitors, Jutkiewicz had another chance following a cross from Rob Hall, but it crept just wide of the post.

Bolton were made to pay for the miss just moments later when Lloyd Dyer burst into the box before curling it into the top corner from the edge of the area.

Jermaine Beckford tried to get the home side back on level terms straight away, hitting the ball on the half-volley just outside the box, but it was well wide.

Jutkiewicz continued to look Bolton's best chance for an equaliser as he tested Schmeichel again with just over 10 minutes still to play, but the Leicester keeper got down low to make the stop.

The striker was involved again as he sent in a through-ball for Beckford, but once again the move was thwarted by Schmeichel.

Knight sent a 30-yard effort into the side-netting in stoppage time as Bolton continued to look for the equaliser, but the hosts could not get back on level terms before the full-time whistle.
