Half-Time Report: Newcastle United leading Cardiff City at the break

Newcastle United lead Cardiff City 2-0 in their Premier League match at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Newcastle United are leading Cardiff City 2-0 in their Premier League match this afternoon, with both goals coming from Loic Remy.

The visitors had a chance to take the lead within the first five minutes of the match through Papiss Cisse, who latched onto Davide Santon's cross-field pass but could not get the ball under his control.

The striker worked another opening moments later when he curled a fierce strike from the edge of the box over the bar.

David Marshall came to the home side's rescue by making a double save from Cisse and Remy before denying Moussa Sissoko by tipping his stinging effort over the bar.

The visitors were on top and took the lead on the half-hour mark through Remy. The striker picked the ball up wide on the left, made his way inside and unleashed a low shot from the edge of the box past Marshall's reach.

The keeper was called into action again almost immediately and did well to hold onto Yohan Cabaye's strike from range.

Newcastle were in firm control of the game and Remy scored his second goal of the afternoon in the 38th minute. Cisse saw his shot blocked by the Cardiff defence and it fell to Remy, who calmly slotted the rebound into the net.
