Chelsea's interim boss Rafael Benitez denies reports that he called Spanish champions Real Madrid his "sweetheart".

Chelsea's interim manager Rafael Benitez has insisted that recent comments he made about taking charge of Real Madrid have been mistranslated.

On his official website, numerous media outlets had claimed that the 52-year-old had described Los Blancos as his "sweetheart" club.

However, at a press conference this afternoon, Benitez was adamant that he had said no such thing.

"You have my website - it's easy to remember. I don't want too much publicity, but you can see the translation because, when we're talking in Spain, translations will always change something," he said. "I didn't say the word that they say - 'sweetheart'. I didn't say that. You can go to my website and see in English what I said.

"I have a lot of respect for Real Madrid because they have a manager in place and I have to focus on Chelsea and do my best for Chelsea. That's it. My job now is to my best for Chelsea - very clear."

Benitez is expected to be relieved of his duties at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.
