Unai Emery: 'I wanted David Luiz to stay at Paris Saint-Germain'

Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery admits that he did not want to lose centre-back David Luiz to Chelsea on transfer deadline day.

Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery has admitted that he did not want the club to sell David Luiz to Chelsea on transfer deadline day.

PSG originally bought the Brazilian centre-back from the Blues for around £50m in 2014, before agreeing to sell the defender back to the Premier League club for £30m on the last day of the summer window.

Despite not featuring at the forefront of Emery's defensive plans, the coach has since stated that he did not want to lose the 29-year-old.

"The transfer window is over," said Emery, according to The Express. "I wanted David Luiz here but he said he had a good offer from Chelsea and he wanted to leave.

"He knew my position, then he spoke with the club and he obtained his agreement."

Luiz made 56 appearances for PSG between 2014 and 2016, scoring three goals for the club.
