Everton looking to avoid equalling 61-year-old record against Chelsea

Everton are looking to avoid matching an unwanted 61-year-old clean sheet record when they welcome Chelsea to Goodison Park in the Premier League on Saturday.

Everton will be out to avoid equalling an unwanted 61-year-old defensive record when they welcome Chelsea to Goodison Park on Saturday evening.

Carlo Ancelotti's men have only managed to keep a clean sheet in one Premier League fixture this season, which came in the opening-day victory over Tottenham Hotspur back in September.

Furthermore, the Toffees have not recorded a shut-out on home turf since their goalless stalemate with Liverpool last season - a run of nine home games in the league without a clean sheet.

Should Ancelotti's defence be breached by Chelsea on Saturday, Everton would have conceded in 10 consecutive league matches at home for the first time since 1959.

In addition, by conceding at least one goal in their last 10 top-flight games at any venue, Everton have now had their longest league run without a clean sheet in the last three years.

Everton currently lie five points adrift of Chelsea before Ancelotti gears up to face his former club this weekend.
