Former Liverpool defender Steve Staunton has claimed that the team can mount a title challenge next season.
Kenny Dalglish's side have endured a difficult Premier League campaign, but have lifted the League Cup and reached the FA Cup final.
Staunton believes that the Reds' cup success is a solid foundation to build on, and has tipped the club for success in 2012-13.
"It's been a pretty successful season already," he told talkSPORT. "I know the Premier League form has been disappointing, they've been so close though.
"They've hit the woodwork more times than any other team, you can see they are putting the pressure on but they just can't kill teams off.
"If Kenny [Dalglish] gets the right acquisitions in the summer they've got a solid base there for a better title push next season, I'm not saying they'll win it but they'll do better than this year."
Liverpool will take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final this afternoon (Saturday).
