Marco van Ginkel has claimed that Chelsea have offered him a new contract, despite his long-term absence due to injury.
Since costing £8m in 2013, Van Ginkel has made just four appearances for Chelsea, instead spending loan periods at three different clubs.
The 27-year-old has not played a competitive game since May 2018 due to a serious knee issue, which left it likely that the Dutchman would be released when his contract expires at the end of the month.
However, Van Ginkel, who has now returned to training, says that he is currently in discussions with the Premier League outfit over fresh terms.
Speaking to AS, the playmaker said: "My agent, Karel Jansen, is in talks with Chelsea about a new contract for me. I am very happy at this show of confidence in me by the club."
Van Ginkel has not played for Chelsea since an EFL Cup clash at Swindon Town in September 2013.
