Roy Hodgson is reportedly set to stay on as Crystal Palace manager after reaching a verbal agreement over a new one-year deal.

Roy Hodgson is reportedly expected to stay on as Crystal Palace manager next season.

Hodgson returned to Selhurst Park for a second spell as Palace manager in March following the sacking of Patrick Vieira.

The experienced manager took over a side that were bereft of confidence following a 12-game winless in all competitions.

Under Hodgson, Palace recorded five victories, three draws and two defeats in 10 matches, ensuring they finished 11 points clear of the drop zone in 11th position.

After overseeing a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest in the final game of the season, Hodgson admitted that he was unsure of his future.

"I have no idea," Hodgson told BBC Sport. "My situation is very simple. I took on a job, I was pleased to take on the job.

"The mandate was a simple one, to come in and help the team to get the number of points we need to stay in the league. That's what I've done and what I've enjoyed doing."

Since the end of the campaign, the Eagles have considered a number of potential candidates for the manager's position, including Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter.

However, according to The Athletic, Hodgson has verbally agreed to sign a new one-year contract with the club.

The report claims that Palace have opted to keep him in the role due to his impressive record since returning to Selhurst Park as well as his popularity with several key members of the squad.

The 75-year-old is currently on holiday, but he is expected to put pen to paper on a new contract when he returns home.

Hodgson began his first spell at Palace in 2017, enjoying four years in the role before leaving the club in 2021.

The former Liverpool boss was appointed Watford manager in January 2022, but he announced his departure following their relegation to the Championship.

There was uncertainty as to whether Hodgson would return to management before he got the call to return to Palace earlier this year.

The Eagles will kick off the 2023-24 campaign with a trip to Bramall Lane to face newly-promoted Sheffield United on August 12.
