Alan Pardew: 'Crystal Palace need a player or two'

Newly-appointed Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew admits that he needs to sign players during the January transfer window.

Alan Pardew has admitted that Crystal Palace need to sign "a player or two" during January's transfer window in order to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The Eagles confirmed the appointment of the former Newcastle United manager as their new boss earlier today, having parted company with Neil Warnock on Boxing Day.

The former Palace midfielder told the club's website: "We've had discussions and without putting pressure on the chairman we'll need a player or two at least.

"To suddenly change to expansive football is not going to suit us and we'll find teams will be more technically dominant than us in the Premier League, so we have to find a different way. A few tweaks here and there, a general evolution of our system and that's really as much as I would put on it.

"The players have got great attitudes here, they have been first-class and I've been very impressed. So can I help change that energy into more tangible results? That might take a transfer, a change of style a little bit, and that's hopefully what a manager of my experience can manage to do."

Pardew will take charge of the side for the first time when they travel to Dover Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup tomorrow.
