Eintracht Frankfurt defender Jetro Willems has reportedly turned down the Bundesliga outfit's offer of a new contract, paving the way for a potential return to Newcastle United.
The left-back made a temporary switch to St James' Park last summer, but Willems's time in the North East was hampered by a serious knee injury which ruled him out of action in January.
The 26-year-old returned to parent club Frankfurt in the summer, but Willems is yet to take to the pitch this season despite making a full recovery and returning to training.
According to Chronicle Live, the Dutch defender has now turned down Frankfurt's offer of a new deal, with his current contract at Die Adler set to expire next summer.
As a result, Willems would be able to enter negotiations with other clubs next month, and the Netherlands international is reportedly determined to return to Newcastle, who boosted their ranks at left-back with the signing of Jamal Lewis from Norwich City in the summer.
Willems turned out 20 times for Newcastle and scored two goals before his season-ending injury.
