Owen Coyle believes that Roy Hodgson will be a success as manager of England.

Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle believes that Roy Hodgson "ticks all the boxes" for the England job.

Hodgson met with the Football Association today after West Bromwich Albion granted them permission to talk to their manager on Sunday.

Many within the game believed that Harry Redknapp was favourite to be named as Fabio Capello's successor, but Coyle said that he was not surprised that Hodgson was given the nod.

The Scot said that he has the utmost respect for the 64-year-old as a manager and believes that he will be a success as manager of the Three Lions.

"It didn't surprise me," said Coyle. "There was the clamour for Harry and we all understand why, but it didn't surprise me that they then tried to approach Roy.

"I am absolutely thrilled. If Roy decides to take the job, there is no doubt he ticks every box in terms of what England are looking for. He has a proven track record and international experience.

"Roy is a terrific manager, someone I have a lot of time for and I have no doubts he can bring real success to the England national team."

Hodgson has previous experience of international management following spells in charge of Finland, UAE and Switzerland.
