Espanyol appoint Rubi as new head coach on two-year deal

Rubi departs his position as Huesca manager to take over as Espanyol's new head coach on a two-year deal.

Espanyol have named Rubi as their new head coach on a deal that runs through until the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

The 48-year-old has previous coaching experience with Los Periquitos and Barcelona, working under Tito Vilanova at the latter for one season.

Fresh from taking Huesca into La Liga, Rubi - also known as Joan Francesc Ferrer - has left his position to take charge of Espanyol.

Quique Flores was sacked by the Spanish outfit in April en route to an 11th-place finish in La Liga.

Championship side Stoke City are reportedly interested in talking to Flores over becoming their next boss.
