Jamie Vardy hit with "substantial fine" by Leicester City

Leicester City hit Jamie Vardy with a "substantial fine" following allegations of racism.

Leicester City have hit forward Jamie Vardy with a "substantial fine" after he racially abused a man in a casino.

The club launched an investigation into the 28-year-old's actions after video footage emerged of him using racist language towards a fellow gambler.

Vardy, who has also been ordered to attend diversity awareness training, described the incident as a "regrettable error in judgement".

"Having established a full account of the incident in question and taken into consideration Jamie's prompt apology, the club has issued the player with a substantial fine and prescribed a programme of diversity awareness training," read a statement on Leicester's official website.

"Jamie has been reminded of his responsibilities to the club, his profession and the Leicester community. The fine will be donated to local charities."

Three players were sacked by Leicester in June for racially abusing a group of prostitutes during the club's end-of-season tour of Thailand.
