Lille boss Rene Girard 'satisfied' with Everton draw

Lille boss Rene Girard says that he was satisfied with his team's display against Everton.

Lille manager Rene Girard has declared that he was satisfied with his team's performance during their goalless draw with Everton in the Europa League.

The Frenchman said that he is pleased his side were able to compete with the Premier League outfit, but lamented their inability to break down defences and score goals.

"We are satisfied to have been able to compete with Everton. Once again we lacked a goal to get a win, but I was really satisfied with the football we produced," he told reporters.

Girard went on to reject claims from Blues boss Roberto Martinez that the state of the playing field affected the outcome of the match.

"Maybe Martinez and his team are used to playing on perfect pitches, on pool tables. Maybe it was a little bit rough. The conditions used to be better, but due to the weather lately maybe it was a little bit heavy. But I don't think it really disrupted the teams playing a technical game," he added.

The result leaves Everton top of Group H with five points from three matches, while Lille are in third on three points.
