Jurgen Klopp tells Liverpool fans to 'stop chanting his name'

Jurgen Klopp admits that praise from Liverpool supporters in the stands is "nice but not necessary" and urges them to instead focus on the players on the field.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has asked supporters to 'not sing his name before the game is decided' and instead praise the players on the pitch.

The German was speaking after seeing his side beat champions Leicester City 4-1 on Saturday evening to pick up their second victory of the Premier League campaign.

Having reacted angrily when chants of his name went up around a revamped Anfield, Klopp later explained to reporters that he wants fans' affection reserved solely for his playing squad in times of need.

"Please don't sing my name before the game is decided," he told reporters. "When the Kop started singing it, [Leicester] were alone in front of Simon [Mignolet].

"I don't play. It was the same at Arsenal. It is nice but not necessary. I am really on the side of the players. I am responsible for our bad performances, they are responsible for the good performances. That is an easy deal. That is what I expect from us, what we did today."

Victory for Liverpool lifts them up to fifth place in the table ahead of their meeting against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge next Friday.
