Brendan Rodgers hails "exceptional" winning streak

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers hails his side's "exceptional" 11-match winning streak, which came to an end at the hands of Chelsea on Sunday.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has paid tribute to his side's "exceptional" 11-match winning streak, which came to an end at the hands of Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday.

The Reds picked up maximum points in the league between February 8 and April 20, a run of form that saw them overtake both Chelsea and Manchester City in the standings to become surprise title favourites.

However, yesterday's defeat leaves the destination of the title in the hands of Manchester City, and Rodgers was keen to focus on keeping up his side's end of the bargain by winning their final two matches, starting with Crystal Palace next Monday.

"Our objective is for ourselves. We now need to win the two games and see where it takes us. Then we will be fine. The players have been absolutely fantastic. We'll now focus on Crystal Palace and see where that takes us," Rodgers told the club's official website.

"I said how proud I was of them, because they were absolutely fantastic. We've been on a run of games and the games that we've won have been exceptional. To lose is obviously a big disappointment, because we haven't had many games that we have lost.

"But we'll take that on the chin; this is a great group of players, a very honest group, and we'll continue to work on."

If Liverpool and Man City both win their remaining matches then Manuel Pellegrini's men would win the title on goal difference.
