Brendan Rodgers says that his former club Liverpool are "very close" to winning the Premier League title.

Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed that the Merseyside club have a "great chance" of being crowned Premier League champions this season.

Jurgen Klopp, who replaced Rodgers in October last year, has guided the Reds to third in the table after 14 games, and they sit just four points adrift of leaders Chelsea.

Rodgers - now in charge of Celtic - came close to taking Liverpool all the way in the 2013-14 campaign, but they just missed out as Manchester City snatched the title with a two-point advantage.

According to the Liverpool Echo, when asked how close the Reds are to becoming champions, Rodgers said: "Very close, very close.

"The players that were there when I was there have got greater experience now - Coutinho, Jordan Henderson, Lucas Leiva - these are guys that have been through it.

"Obviously they've got one game a week, they can really focus on that, and I think they will be very, very close. As I've said, he's done great Jurgen, he's got them really working, got them focused and they've got big quality in the squad so I'm sure they'll be in with a great chance."

Liverpool will look to claim their 10th league win of the season when they welcome West Ham United to Anfield on Sunday.
