Luis Suarez: 'I won the Liverpool fans back after difficult summer'

Luis Suarez says that it was important for him to 'win back' the Liverpool supporters after trying to force through an exit in the summer.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has claimed that it was important for him to 'win back' his club's supporters after trying to orchestrate a move away from Anfield in the summer.

The Uruguay international, who expressed a desire to play for a Champions League club during the summer transfer window, was the subject of two rejected bids from Arsenal.

After Liverpool stood firm, Suarez returned to the team after a 10-match ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic and has gone on to score 17 Premier League goals so far this season.

"Coming back to play at Anfield - because after so many difficult moments for me I was able to win the supporters back, and that was unbelievable when I came back to play," The Express quotes Suarez as saying.

"They helped me, and that was important for me, for my confidence, and for my family, because they are together with me in this."

Suarez won the 2013 Player of the Year award at the Football Supporters' Federation Awards at the Emirates Stadium last night.
