Manchester City confirm that Kevin De Bruyne injured his knee in training on Wednesday and will now undergo a scan.

Manchester City have announced that playmaker Kevin De Bruyne is to undergo a scan on a knee injury sustained in training on Wednesday.

Reports emerged earlier today of a potentially season-ending injury for the Belgium international, who finished runner-up in last term's PFA Player of the Year voting.

De Bruyne is thought to have sustained ligament damage, almost certainly ruling him out for at least a couple of months, but City will wait until further tests have been carried out before confirming the news.

A club statement read: "Kevin De Bruyne is undergoing tests on his right knee after sustaining an injury at training on Wednesday. The extent of the problem is not yet known and we will bring you further updates on Kevin's condition in due course."

De Bruyne, who managed 12 goals and 21 assists in all competitions last term, missed 12 games after injuring his right knee in January 2016.

The former Chelsea ace made his return to action in the second half of City's 2-0 win against Arsenal last weekend following an extended post-World Cup break.
