Cristiano Ronaldo trains with Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo takes part in Manchester United training for the first time since returning to Old Trafford from Juventus last month.

Cristiano Ronaldo has trained with Manchester United for the first time since his shock return from Juventus.

The 36-year-old was granted early leave from Portugal's camp after a booking against the Republic of Ireland ruled him out of Tuesday's World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan.

Ronaldo flew to Manchester last week in order to undergo a mandatory self-isolation period, and previous reports had claimed that he was unlikely to train with his new teammates before Thursday.

However, United posted a series of training images of Ronaldo being put through his paces on Tuesday ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

The world's highest men's international goalscorer could make his second debut for the Red Devils against the Magpies this weekend or against Young Boys in Tuesday's Champions League group stage opener.

Ronaldo has been backed to "raise the level" of Man United by new teammate Paul Pogba, with the attacker aiming to build on the 118 goals he registered in 292 appearances during his first spell at Old Trafford.
