Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville insists that the Red Devils 'would be fine' if Paul Pogba left.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has insisted that the Red Devils 'would be fine' if Paul Pogba left.

Pogba's future at Old Trafford has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, with the player said to be desperate to join Barcelona.

The midfielder fuelled suggestions that he wants to leave with his comments during the recent international break, and it is widely thought that he will seek a move in either January or at the end of the season.

Neville has now opened up on the situation, and has insisted that his former club would move on if the 25-year-old were sold.

"There are four ways to look at it," Neville told The Times. "Pundit, owner, fan and a personal word. Neville the pundit would say: he's a talented player but I want to see more consistency and leadership.

"As a fan, honestly, part of me says that no one is bigger than the club and I am not interested in people who are looking left and right. So, Paul, if you want to go play somewhere else, let's make that work for you because Manchester United will be fine, don't worry about that.

"The owner in me would do what United are doing at the moment, saying he is not for sale. They have to protect their asset but privately they might be doing a deal because they want to get their £90m back.

"If I was still in that dressing room giving personal advice it would be: 'Paul, it's obvious you want to play somewhere else but be professional.' Don't be someone who is seen as a mercenary or a mutineer. You don't need to do that."

Pogba has scored twice in four Premier League appearances for United this season.
