Barcelona boss Xavi was left 'speechless' when he learned that Ousmane Dembele wants a £700,000-a-week contract, according to a report.

Barcelona boss Xavi was reportedly left 'speechless' when he learned that Ousmane Dembele wants a £700,000-a-week contract to stay at Camp Nou.

The France international's current deal with the Catalan giants is due to expire at the end of June, and Barcelona are struggling to agree an extension with the attacker.

Manchester United, Newcastle United and Liverpool are all believed to be keen to bring the World Cup winner to the Premier League ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Dembele's wage demands of £700,000 a week have shocked Xavi, who has continued to back the Frenchman amid the speculation surrounding his future.

The attacker is in a strong position to demand a large salary due to his contract situation, while he could also receive a large signing-on fee from a potential new club this summer.

Dembele, who has been included in the squad for Sunday's La Liga clash with Granada, has scored once and provided two assists in nine appearances at club level during the 2021-22 campaign.
