Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane says that Raphael Varane is not for sale amid suggestions that Manchester United are lining up a move for the centre-back.

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has branded Raphael Varane "untransferable" amid suggestions that Manchester United are lining up a move for the central defender.

A recent report claimed that United are preparing to make an approach for the France international, who only has 18 months left to run on his contract at the Bernabeu.

However, Zidane has firmly denied rumours that the World Cup winner could be allowed to leave Los Blancos in the near future.

"It's not just me [who wants to keep him]," Zidane told reporters. "He is part of this club, we were very lucky to be able to bring him to Madrid.

"He has a great career, he's achieved a lot since he's been here. Of course, he is untransferable for the club, for the coach that I am, for people in general.

"That's clear and unambiguous. Now we can't stop people from talking. They're not just talking about Varane, but about all the players, Real Madrid ones and others. But for Varane, my position is clear, and it's the same as the club's position."

The 27-year-old has made 329 appearances for Madrid since arriving from Lens in 2011, winning three La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns in the process.
