Sepp Blatter returns to FIFA headquarters for appeal against eight-year ban

Banned FIFA president Sepp Blatter arrives at the world governing body's headquarters to appeal against his eight-year ban from all football-related activity.

Suspended FIFA president Sepp Blatter will have his appeal against an eight-year ban from all football-related activity heard on Tuesday.

The 79-year-old was handed the suspension in December after being found guilty of a £1.3m "disloyal payment" to UEFA president Michel Platini, who was also banned for eight years.

Platini had his appeal against the ban heard on Monday, with both parties claiming that the payment was made for work carried out by Platini for Blatter between 1998 and 2002.

The FIFA appeals committee has the authority to overturn or reduce the length of the ban, or it could also decide to increase the suspension.

Should Blatter and Platini fail with their appeal then they are expected to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The FIFA ethics committee will also appeal the eight-year bans, arguing that the sanctions imposed on both Blatter and Platini were too lenient.
