Matt Polster and Andrew Gutman have joined up with the Light Blues squad.

Steven Gerrard is running the rule over two American trialists after inviting them to spend a week training with Rangers.

Chicago Fire right-back Matt Polster and Indiana University prospect Andrew Gutman were pictured among the Light Blues squad preparing for Wednesday's clash with Hibernian.

"They are a couple of guys from the US who have come over," said boss Gerrard. "We are having a look at them this week."

Polster, who can also occupy a holding midfield role, has racked up more than 80 MLS appearances and was handed his first cap by the USA against Bosnia & Herzegovina in a friendly last January.

However, he started just three games for the Fire this term before his campaign was cut short by a serious knee injury.

His contract with the Toyota Park outfit is set to expire in the coming weeks and Gerrard is taking a closer look at the 25-year-old before deciding whether to make a move.

Former Fire youth academy centre-back Gutman has also made the trip to Glasgow in an attempt to catch Gerrard's eye.

The 22-year-old is one of the US College system's hotly-tipped defenders and was voted in the 2018 college team of the year.

Gerrard is been keen to add his squad after sending loanees Ovie Ejaria and Umar Sadiq back to parent clubs Liverpool and Roma and says he is looking to add a frontman and creative presence for his midfield when the January window opens.

Rangers have already been linked with moves for former captain Steven Davis, Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke and Everton youngster Kieran Dowell.
