Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho claims that he will "reaffirm" Real Madrid's status.

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has said that he wants to "reaffirm" Real Madrid's status on the European stage.

Mourinho, whose side are seven points clear of rivals Barcelona in La Liga, will lead Los Blancos against APOEL in the next round of the Champions League with a place in the semi-finals at stake.

"I want to put Madrid into the semis for the second consecutive season," he said.

"When I arrived here we were not one of the top teams, and we were behind a lot of the other sides in the draw. Now we are the team who has the most points.

"I want to reaffirm Real Madrid's status once again. When we do get to the semi-finals, we will start to think about reaching the final, but the next step is the semis."

Meanwhile, Real Madrid host Malaga at the Santiago Bernabeu in La Liga tonight.
