Real Madrid team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Real Betis

Sports Mole rounds up Real Madrid's injury and suspension news ahead of their La Liga clash with Real Betis.

Real Madrid will endeavour to get back on track in La Liga when they travel to Real Betis on Saturday night.

Carlo Ancelotti's side thrashed Alaves 4-1 on the opening day of the season before being forced to come from behind to rescue a point against Levante, with Vinicius Junior netting twice off the bench in a 3-3 stalemate.

Los Blancos had initially gone ahead through Gareth Bale's fifth-minute strike before Levante came out all guns blazing in the second half, and Ancelotti will be demanding a reaction from his side here.

With that in mind, Sports Mole rounds up all of Real Madrid's injury and suspension news ahead of their battle with Betis.

Luka Modric

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Adductor
Possible return date: August 28 (vs. Betis)

Veteran midfielder Luka Modric was not available for the clash with Levante due to adductor discomfort, and while the issue is not thought to be deadly serious, he is still a major doubt for this contest.

Toni Kroos

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hip
Possible return date: Unknown

Midfield maestro Toni Kroos is working his way back from a hip problem but was restricted to indoor training before the clash with Levante, and it would be a shock to see him recover in time for Saturday.

Ferland Mendy

Status: Out
Type of injury: Leg
Possible return date: September 12 (vs. Celta Vigo)

Left-back Ferland Mendy continues to nurse the leg issue which forced him to miss the end of the 2020-21 season. The Frenchman trained individually outside before the Levante draw, but Real do not expect him to return before the international break.

Marcelo

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: August 28 (vs. Betis)

Marcelo sustained a minor muscle problem in training before the opening-day win over Alaves and was not involved against Levante, but the Brazilian is expected to recover in time for gameweek three.

Dani Ceballos

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: Unknown

Dani Ceballos sustained a nasty-looking ankle injury while on duty with Spain during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and is not back out on the grass just yet, so he will likely miss out here.

Mariano Diaz

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Knock
Possible return date: August 28 (vs. Betis)

Striker Mariano Diaz did not feature against Levante due to a knock, but he is training on the grass and could come into contention for Saturday's game.
